They keep saying "the bible has a lot of followers — so it must be right"…
For many years, decades, even Centuries, slavery had a lot of supporters, and it turned out to be wrong. But that's another story entirely…
Factually — the bible was scribbled out, and the books of the bible, contextually, are only a guess — many books are in bits and pieces and over half of the words in the books are extrapolated — guesswork. Because they have always been missing from the old parchments…
It's 2000 years later, and still, over 70% of the people on earth reject the bible. That's a pretty bad track record for something, if it was actually inspired by a god. For that simple reason, my conclusion would be that it's wrong, and certainly not inspired by a god or the "word of" a god…
Your thoughts?
sorry David M — but I don't make the egotistical claim to "know" a god or any other cult/myth character. i don't pretend things like that to validate a thought or a belief…it is so beyond ridiculous to carry such a delusion that I don't know where to begin the discussion about validating delusions to, in turn, validate a belief. but no, I will not add to that the notion that one must possess that delusion of knowing a god to understand something written in a book. any college religion course taught by a degreed theologian would also laugh you out of the room for making that same type of claim/cop-out… that is a really grasping, unintelligent defense of a cult book — to say that you must be possessed by a god, or "know" a god, before you can understand what that god wrote or inspired. it's very, very unintelligent. and actually, it weakens your argument.
Lee F said "and you forgot to mention which Bible, as there are many, You didn't know that, did you?"
yes, actually, I know that there are over a hundred different variations, interpretations, and editions of the bible. the KJV, the Douay Reims, Living, New American Standard, Luther, New KJV, the Wycliffe, the New World, the Prophets — OH the list goes on and on. And each one claims to be the true, accurate representationof the word of God. And, if THAT ALONE doesn't tell you how ridiculous, and universally minsunderstood it is, than you need help. But thanks for pointing out that fact — it actually strengthened my argument.
Lee F also said: "The books are like a manual to life, written in parables, so that you can correlate it as well as possible to fit a situation."
translate that to mean — you can twist it to ft your argument, you can use it to hate whichever sub-population you wish at any given time (like gay people) by telling people "those laws have to be taken literally TODAY" while, at the same time, ignoring the REAMS of anti-female scripture, telling us that THOSE are outdated, contextually interpreted, and only meant for a specific population of women at a specific biblical time in a specific region of the world. BUT, that gay stuff, it's menat to be literal (they way I interpret it) and meant for EVERYONE and meant for TODAY.
i don't know how some of you can look at yourself in the mirror, with that depth of hypocrisy, double-speak, and hatred for people.
The bible can never really be a validated document of truth, because the contents regarding scripture are stories handed down hundreds of years after the death of Jesus, and there is no factual evidence that scripture was ever inspired by God, but there is one fact that is documented in every religious denomination in the world today, and that is "GREED" inspired by man,and his need for wealth, power, and control, and all of this is done in the name of God,. and this is why so many religions leaders are able to brainwash their followers into believing the bible to be factual and true when the leaders themselves know that the bible holds little water when it comes down to facts.
