Ok so granted many ancient myths are born out of true events?
It's not sound logic to take that to mean Christianity is a myth.
Learn logic than get back to me.
References :
1) christians, what makes you think that the bible is true?

Gobs and gobs of supporting archaeological evidence, and only a taste of contrary evidence (like the slight and insignificant contrast found in the Mesha Stele)

2) don't you realise that many ancient myths are born out of true events.

Sure - but normally there is
* considerable hard evidence that they are not entirely as recorded
and/or
* considerable evidence that the supernatural beings or events recorded could not be as recorded

Neither of these are the case with The Bible.

3) even though wars and battles and historical events really did take place, they were later turned into mythical or supernatural occurrences and perpetuated as folk tales to be told around a campfire in order to inspire the people of that tribe.

That's fine for tribal cultures. How do you explain Christianity?

4) Beowulf is one such example.

See 2)

I personally don't think that the Bible is that different. Reading the Bible takes careful interpretation because it's not something to be taken completely literally. Yes, myths are borne out of true events; by my own interpretation, (some of my fellow Christians might not agree) many supernatural events in the Bible are not to be taken literally, such as the creation of the earth and all its inhabitants. The Old Testament especially is the part of it that needs seriously meticulous interpretation because to many, several of its stories don't make sense. Maybe they really went differently than how they were written.

HOWEVER, that doesn't take away the essence of the Word of God: that He loves us, that He does everything to show it, to the point of sacrificing His own Son for the sake of the salvation of mankind from the clutches of death. God has already punished us when Adam and Eve supposedly disobeyed Him and ate from the Tree of Knowledge; by our sins, we deserve to die. But He loves us so much He is willing to give us a chance to be saved from that punishment.

In a way, whether or not the stories in the Bible went the way we read them now, it doesn't take away the fact that the Bible in itself is an account of God's love for us.
References :
Many archaeological discoveries have proved that places in the Bible were real. There really was a wall at Jericho; in fact more than one, at different times. The Bible is the most unique book of religion in existence. It presents real life; not only the accomplishments of the heroes, but also their faults and failures. The capture of Jerusalem and the Israelites by kings from the east is a historical fact. The Jews now occupy the land that was given to them in the Bible; the same geographical location by descendants of the same people. They are proof of the Bible. Also early Christians were tortured and killed because they would not recant; why would they not recant if they made up the story of Jesus? They were convinced that he was resurrected. It really matters not what you think about it.
Halley's Bible Handbook, published by Zondervan, tells about many of the archaeological discoveries.
References :
I'm actually a pagan and dont believe in the bible myself, but I get the same question asked about my beleifs and any associated books and really, I would answer your question with another question: how can you be sure its all made up?

At the end of the day, any religious person (myself included) can't provide hard evidence that our beliefs are correct, but by the same token, i've never seen any hard evidence to prove me wrong.
References :
The nature of the Spirit who whispers truth in a shadowland existence.

Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Get this... They think the Bible is true, because the Bible is the word of God.
And how do they know this? Because it says so in the Bible. And the Bible is true.

You can try and try and try... they will never see how this circular reasoning.
References :
I am in awe that whoever has discussed this with you would quote verses of judgement! That is 1) hypocritical, and 2) stupid! As for the asking and doubt part I don't think it is...we know the bible is inspired by god because of three small but important points
1) The bible does not contradict itself
2) The bible does not condone sexual immorality, lying, killing, stealing, etc.
3) The bible is historically accurate and nobody has been able to prove that everything in the bible is 100% false, in fact science has been able to prove most of it true!

I'm sorry to bring these people into it but the muslims can be defined as a contradiction against the bible.

They take many wives when the bible say to only share yourself with another, they kill infidels in the name of god, of course I'm talking mainly about the taliban but that is what the (whatever book is called) says can be ok. In fact the muslim book can actually be considered a contradiction, at first it likes israel(-ites) then it doesn't!-contradiction

And then there was that whole thing with the Crusades! People in power will do whatever it takes to get what they want, if say it is wanted by god! STUPID!!

I encourage you to keep seeking the truth, and if whoever is telling you these things is in your opinion doing it incorrectly, it's okay to find somebody else, or even an entirely new church!
