Paeng Belza “search in ” in congregation of OMI, Oblates of Mary Immaculates.
12 October, 2007
Dearest Paeng,
Today is a retreat time for your graduating class. You’re Mama and I wish to add some notes for your Baguio retreat.
Paeng, you are a gift given to us from Heaven. For in you, our family has risen from the deep slumber of spiritual malnourishment. Before, we are just like the ordinary catholic’s who went to mass during Sundays and to Jolibee afterwards with little understanding nor conviction what a catholic faith means. We are commonly known as “Katolikong Kangkong”, a catholic without substance or for name sake only. We have not lived the model of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Last August 2007 when Fr. Jun Jacobe, vocation director of Oblates of Mary Immaculates visited your school and gave a inspirational talk on priestly vocation among the hundreds of graduating class, only you affirms to the “Calling”.
This “Call” that you granted to say “Yes” is the most admirable thing that you can share to a loving parent. It’s like a jolt that awakens the sleeping giants in us. “For many are invited, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14).
As you can feel and see, our family now has been receiving signal graces (remember the co-incidence or divine intervention questions we had been encountering?), the encounter with John 15:16 three times, which says “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”
Like the tide in the ocean wherein our feet has been touched, slowly rising to our ankle, to our knees, and upwardly, engulfing our whole body soon. A sign that this is a heavenly gift. Never did we imagine that this “calling” will be granted to one of our children. This seed which was given to you is a wonderful grace wherein you should nourish and taken care, that it may grow abundantly and bear much fruits.
Never mind the jokes, insinuation from peers as they are like an infant compared to your aged, matured spirituality, or they are like a clown making fun of others not knowing that they are the real jokes. Be on guard always as the other side will try everything to grab this gift and suppress it. Prepare yourself as you will encounter thunderstorms and it will rock your boat violently, for this voyage will not be a picnic. But please don’t be perplexed as our whole family is behind and safeguarding you through prayers. Attending mass and receiving the Holy Eucharist regularly, consecrating our family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Immaculate, doing the evening holy hour, saying the Holy rosary daily and reading the Holy Bible are the formidable barrier and weapons against this “other side”. These things are being done by our family through your initiative.
We understand the shift from boyhood to manhood and we fervently pray that it would be a blissful transition.
Lastly, months from now you will be embarking on a new chapter of your life and that undertaking will test the real you. We will pray that you may receive from the Holy Spirit the gifts that you may endure the formation years. As your Mama and I observed, you are finding detachment from “Manga, Cool Edit and Star craft”. Ten years from now you will be saying to yourself “I’m glad I have chosen the right decision.”
Today, treasure these cheerful moments with your classmates as this will be stamped in your memory for a long time. High school days are the sweetest memories of your studying life.
Please remember always that we love you so much that we will sacrifice our self just for your sake.
Our Forever love,
Mama and Papa
