Hi guys ![]()
So there’s this competition for short stories with a Christian theme around some local schools - first prize is $1000. Mate, I’m going for it, haha!
But there’s an eeensy problem: I AM COMPLETELY STUMPED.
Well, not completely. I was thinking of doing something about a mother who isn’t coping well with the death of her son, and resorts to prayer to recover. I figured that it might be alright if I really got into her head, you know? But the stupid thing isn’t behaving for me.
So here’s my question: What comes to mind when you think of the Christian theme?
Inspire me!
(Oh, but pleeeeeeeease, PLEASE do not give me a plot. I don’t want it to be one of *those* questions.)
Thank you ^.^
@Joanne: Catholicism is a branch of Christianity - I’m Catholic too! ;D
I’m Catholic, I honestly don’t know the difference but hmm, lets see…
At one point, at least everyone has had a doubt in their faith. Heck, one time I went to church and there was this crazy guy there 0.0. The woman would definitely have doubt in her faith if her son just died, unless she’s truly one of those people who still believe no matter what.
Whenever i think of my religion, I think of the good and the bad. The Church persecuted many people but now we understand what we did wrong. Basically the balance between life and death could be a good thing that the woman delves into while praying.
Another thing, is the woman praying just at a church when you’re writing about her? Because if she’s out and about and thinking about her son and prayers, then you could definitely add in scenes of good will. Like a kind stranger and then some evil guy. Evil guy, hehe.
Anyways, that’s all I have for now. $1000, I want to enter!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. You haven’t replied to me!! =’( Jk, take your time, while you’re at it, write that winning story =D
I like your idea. When I think of a christian theme I kind of think about someone defending their faith or believing in their faith (or getting it back in the end) no matter what hardships they have gone through. Kind of like when people are like "God will guide me through it" or something miraculus happens. Or someone rising to the challenges people present to them because of their faith (well, that might be a little hard for a christian book.) I’m not the best with christian books so sorry if that sucked.
Good luck with your contest!
EDIT: Okay I just thought of something else, maybe if you have the character kind of be introduced to the christian faith and get all into God and all that stuff, and have them believed their soul was saved.
answer mine?

I’m not a Christian so you might not appreciate my answer, but you should totally write something about how most "Christians" are only Christian at church.

A Christian theme. A competition for short stories, aimed at the students of local schools. The question I would be asking myself before I even began is; "Who are the sponsors of this competition, and what are they really looking to accomplish?". As it is geared towards students of local high schools, I’m thinking they are looking for something to re-establish the moral sustenance which is in a big decline in today’s youthful society. I would create my theme from that view point. Youth building a tower of morality to make us older folks think there is hope in this world. Think "Mother Theresa" and good works. Think ‘respect for the elderly’. Think ‘the good Samaritan’. Think ‘making students into a mold which their offspring can build upon.’
